Description
This degree combines the best parts of business and computing degrees. By the time you graduate, you will understand what makes the business world tick and how information systems are integral to business growth in the 21st century.
You'll look at how successful companies such as Amazon and Superdry drive growth and increase profits through IT systems. Our guest lecturers have a range of experience from business start-ups to multi-national companies. They'll share expert insights and knowledge on how IT professionals help solve business challenges. You'll learn through real-life case studies. For example, how Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group uses IT systems to track his vast network of multi-national brands.
Starting with building and managing an Oracle database, you'll work on real-life business problems right from the first year. Our business challenges will help you understand some of the most complex problems businesses have to overcome such as merger and acquisitions. We'll explore why almost 90% of mergers fail (Forbes 2015) and how you, as a skilled graduate, can overcome these challenges using IT systems. If you want to start your own business, we'll help you develop skills and knowledge to create a business idea, establish a viable product or service, and market it. Our students compete for blue-chip placement opportunities at companies such as GSK (GlaxoSmithKlein). Other placement companies include Intel, Yell and Cadbury. Your lecturers all have business and IT experience, often acting as consultants. They bring real-world experiences into your lessons, such as helping businesses implement Big Data or improve systems such as Oracle and Microsoft. This ensures you're learning from the most up-to-date challenges.
