With more than 8000 students, 1200 staff and an annual turnover of £130m we are one of the biggest faculties in the UK working across science and engineering.

Our expertise
Our staff and facilities are national leaders, providing expertise to the highest levels of government.

We host key components of the UK's research infrastructure. This includes the National Centre for Energy Systems Integration, the National Centre for Subsea and Offshore Engineering, the government-backed National Innovation Centre for Data, and two of the Government's Centres for Agricultural Innovation.

We are also members of major research consortia including:

The Faraday Battery Institution, with £65 million from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund
UK Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities
Supergen programme in which we are leading a £5 million research hub that will help transform the UK’s energy network
The Alan Turing Institute - the national institute for data science and artificial intelligence

Learning and Teaching is underpinned by traditional and innovative pedagogy.  We are one of only eight research-intensive Russell Group universities to have achieved gold, the highest rating, in the Teaching Excellence Framework . All of our degree courses are research-informed and delivered together with industrial partners. Based in a city famed for its friendliness and vibrancy, our students' experience is envied by many around the world.
