School of Computing, Mathematics and Digital Technology

The School of Computing, Mathematics and Digital Technology is a vibrant community of staff and students as part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering.  We are a large School, but pride ourselves on working with students and external collaborators on a personal level.  We are committed to delivering high-quality teaching and research.

Our research addresses societal challenges and is funded by research councils and the EU.  We have research strengths in exciting areas that can transform lives for the better including artificial intelligence, big data, computational fluid dynamics, cyber security, dynamical systems, the Internet of Things, smart cities, robotics, and virtual reality.

Career-focused programmes
We have an attractive portfolio of undergraduate study including BSc (Hons) courses in Computer Science, Computer Games Technology, Computer Animation, Computer Forensics and Security, Mathematics and Software Engineering and our courses are developed with input from employers.

Our range of postgraduate courses are in areas where specialist skills are in demand, including MSc courses in Advanced Computer Science, Cyber Security and Data Science.  We also have conversion master’s courses in Computing and Information Systems that enable graduates from other subjects to move into the computing discipline.

Working in partnership
Industry links are important to us.  We work in partnership with companies large and small, local and global on technology transfer projects and initiatives to develop better employment skills for our students. We are at the centre of the highly successful degree apprenticeship in Digital and Technology Solutions, which helps employers address areas of skills shortage.

Our subject disciplines are in demand globally. We have research and teaching partnerships with universities across the world. If you are an international student please look at our wide range of courses that can help you develop your career.

We work closely with our wider community and have a strong record of promoting gender balance in our subjects.  We work with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the group behind the creation of affordable computers for children and Mathematics outreach to schools.
