Description

Learn how to build mechatronic components, and develop the skills and expertise needed to work in engineering industries worldwide.

Our master’s integrates the latest thinking in electrical and mechanical engineering to give you in-depth training in producing mechatronics components.

Mechatronics are used more and more in industry to improve performance and energy efficiency. We have developed this course with input from industrial partners to make sure that you have the relevant skillset to work in this engineering sector.

A mix of theory, practice and research advances your understanding across electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering. You’ll explore ways to use mechatronics to improve the performance of modern equipment and devices. These will include techniques using artificial intelligence, modern control and computer engineering. You’ll also learn about the principal subsystems within mechatronic systems, and develop mathematical models and designs.

You’ll learn from academics based in our Departments of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Their research expertise and international collaborations feed into your teaching and learning experience.

Group projects are a chance for you to apply mechatronics design principles to complex engineering problems. Working on challenges that you could find in industry helps you develop skills in project management, teamwork and communication. In your final semester, you’ll work on an individual project that could be on a range of topics including autonomous systems, robotics or tomography.

We have a range of facilities to support your project work. You’ll have access to high-tech experimental facilities covering real-time simulation, PCB fabrication and rapid prototyping. We also have laboratories for electronics design, power electronics and machines, microgrids, electric vehicles, autonomous systems and robotics.

You'll graduate with the knowledge and training in both electrical and mechanical engineering that are in high demand in aerospace, automotive and manufacturing industries. Jobs our graduates have secured include:

Product research development engineer, University of Bath
Project manager, Guandong Best Control Technology
Software engineer, DIAGNOS
Engineer, MAN Diesel & Turbo
We also encourage our best performing students to continue their studies with us on one of our PhD programmes.
