Description
Apply your engineering skills to a master’s degree that focuses on design. Use your knowledge and creativity to come up with new products and services.
If you have a strong background in engineering and mathematics and you're looking to apply your skills more creatively, our master's is an excellent choice for you.
Our course brings together both the practical and creative aspects of designing new products and services. You'll learn about how creative techniques, analytical skills and engineering principles are used to solve design challenges. Moving beyond the classroom, you'll explore how design impacts all sectors of industry and how it overlaps with engineering.
Project work allows you to use technical skills and your initiative to design, test and build working products. Many of our students choose to develop products or services that solve real environmental, social or economic problems.
You’ll learn from academics with professional, teaching and research expertise in mechanical engineering and design. Their industrial collaborations and research in product design and manufacturing feed into your teaching and learning experience. We also involve our industrial partners in the delivery of our course. This enriches your learning experience with the latest thinking and practice in industry.
You’ll have access to teaching and research laboratories that support a range of activities including advanced 3D printing, design and CAD labs.
Our graduates have gone on to work with environmental design and design consultancies in the UK and overseas. Some of our graduates have secured jobs at DNV GL (formerly Garrad Hassan), ABB Research and Dyson. We also encourage our best performing MSc students to continue their studies with us on our PhD programme.
