Description
Our Economics and Politics degree combines the study of two social sciences, providing you with a deep understanding of global markets and political systems.
Economics is based on a series of core units covering economics and econometrics, which you will study in all three years. You also have the opportunity to study a variety of optional units in areas that may include:
environmental economics
political economy
globalisation and development
the history of economic thought
industrial economics
international economics
labour economics
macroeconomic theory and policy.
Bristol has an impressive reputation for teaching and research in politics and international relations. You will study the politics of individual countries and governments, and the relationships between countries, communities and individuals. Politics is organised around three themes:
political theory
comparative and national politics
international relations.
During your first and second years you will study four compulsory units in politics to ensure you have a solid grounding in the discipline, as well as taking some optional units. Your final year will include a range of units that are closely linked to staff research interests and thus unique to Bristol. Units may include subjects such as political theory, international relations, UK politics, US politics, gender, security and conflict. There is a strong emphasis on research skills, with a compulsory unit in the first year and the possibility to complete a dissertation in the final year.
Both schools encourage strong synergy between research and teaching resulting in a vibrant learning environment as staff respond in their teaching to new research.
