Description
About BSc Mathematics and Philosophy
This course combines the quantitative problem solving of mathematics with the analytical and reflective thinking skills of philosophy.
Your mathematics study will focus on the areas of pure mathematics most connected to philosophical study, such as geometry, algebra, set theory and logic, which acts as a bridge between the two subjects. You will be able to choose from a range of philosophy units relating to the physical and social sciences.
In your first year you will take 80 credit points in mathematics including linear algebra, calculus, analysis and some extra pure mathematics, and 40 in philosophy in two mandatory introduction to philosophy units.
In year two, 60 credit points including realism and normativity are compulsory, while the third year allows you to choose a variety of units in both mathematics and philosophy. You will complete a philosophy project in your third year.
