Description
Benefit from an experienced team of research-active staff able to offer supervision across a wide range of subjects and themes, including: film and animation, TV and radio, popular music, news and journalism, media and cultural studies, and memory studies. Undertake interdisciplinary research both within the faculty and across the university. For example, if you are researching in the area of film, you may wish to combine a written theory component with the production of a feature-length screenplay.
Examples of potential research topics are: issues of authorship and queer identities; spectatorship and engagement; national identity and cinemas; film music; critical approaches to the music industry; music, gender and ageing; news, democracy and citizenship; the impact of tabloidisation on news selection; news and globalisation; media and memory; creative approaches to radio production; 360 degree programming and digital media; tv genres.
Research students who have not already completed a relevant Masters degree or other appropriate postgraduate research methods training, are normally required to complete the university's research methods' training course: Philosophy and Approaches to Research and Methodologies and Methods.Learn through peer group seminars and discussions. Campus-based and university-wide open lecture programmes are seen as integral to your experience.
