Description

Focusing on the management of injuries for maximum sports performance, sports therapy is a vital aspect of the functional return of recreational, amateur and elite athletes. The degree is underpinned by sports science disciplines and will equip you with the skills to prevent, assess and rehabilitate sports injuries.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with touring international teams. Students have previously worked with Tonga and Samoa Rugby Union and Team Malawi Olympic athletes. They also gain experience with medicine professionals such as sports doctors, orthopedic surgeons, podiatrists and chiropractors. You’ll treat athletes from our professional sports teams, international sports scholars and members of the public including local firefighter and police officers. No wonder our students rated this course 97% for overall student satisfaction (NSS 2017).

Our weekly in-house sports therapy clinic means you can work with clients under the guidance of experienced teaching staff from the first term of the degree. You’ll have the opportunity to achieve your pitch-side first aid qualification as part of your first-year induction, ready to start your clinical practice from week 5. You’ll provide pitch-side for local and university teams.  By the end of your first year you’ll be a qualified sports masseuse with the ability to treat local professional sports team such as Gloucester Rugby.

You’ll learn in fully-equipped ped sports therapy suites, physiology and biomechanics labs, with gold-standard equipment such as fully-body vacuum mattresses, diagnostic ultrasound, RS footscan, body-pod, Vicon 3D motion analysis.
