Description
If you think you have a strong sense of justice and the ability to diffuse tension in stressful situations, then you might be considering a career in policing. This degree combines academic study and skills training to provide a thorough grounding in the theory and practicalities of work within the contemporary policing workforce.
The University of Gloucestershire is working with Gloucestershire Constabulary to design this rewarding new degree aimed at ambitious students planning a career in policing and related sectors. Compulsory modules cover key areas of knowledge, including legislation; police practices, policies and procedures; the role of the police in the UK criminal justice system; equality and diversity; and crime investigation.
You also select from a range of option modules which provide the opportunity to explore areas of personal interest in policing or criminology, such as restorative justice, crime science, and public protection.
Alongside this syllabus you will also follow a programme of professional development. We encourage students to join the Special Constabulary** and be trained in the underpinning operational skills required of police officers; alternatively you could volunteer in another policing-related role.
**Those students wishing to join the Special Constabulary will make a separate application on joining the course. Please note that acceptance to the Special Constabulary is not guaranteed and is dependent on a successful evidence-based application, interview, fitness test, medical and vetting procedure. Potential students are strongly advised to take the College of Policing’s Pre-Application Questionnaire before enrolling for this course.
*Participation in this course cannot guarantee recruitment into the police service.
