Description

From classical acting to improvisation, physical theatre to contemporary digital performance, you’ll experience the full range of theatre on this focused and creative degree. Based in the purpose-built Performing Arts Centre, this course combines theoretical and practical preparation for performance, with training in:

Voice
Movement
Improvisation
Relaxation techniques
Singing
Stage combat
Acting for camera
Modules focus on the latest developments in Contemporary and Classical theatre and give you the chance to work with professional directors and leading theatre companies. The academic programme is supplemented by specialist workshops in areas like Commedia dell' Arte mask performance, TV Drama, Clowning, and Radio Acting.

As well as regularly performing at professional venues like Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre, you will get the opportunity to take a show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. There are also optional international study trips to New York and Berlin. A special feature of the course is its site-specific performance work and you will get to create theatre for historic buildings like Blackfriars Abbey, Gloucester, or the National Trust’s Croome Court.

Your skills will be nurtured through working within a friendly and vibrant performance community. Practical classes run alongside accessible and interactive lectures where you will develop skills in presentation, debate and academic writing and develop an understanding of theatre’s rich history.You’ll learn from lecturers who are experienced actors and directors, bringing their extensive knowledge to exciting modules. You’ll gain professional experience through work placement opportunities, with theatres, schools, or companies, which will boost your employability and allow you to make valuable industry contacts.Classes are based in our purpose-built Performing Arts Centre at Oxstalls campus where specialist facilities include drama and dance studios with full lighting rig, a multi-media theatre studio and an acoustically designed music and singing room.
