Description

Explore the fundamental principles of law in England and Wales on a qualifying law degree recognised by both the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board.

You will gain solid grounding in the key areas such as legal methods and skills, constitutional law, criminal law and property law. You can also specialise in a range of subjects including family law, media and entertainment law, company law and human rights, depending on your area of interest.

Throughout your degree you will learn how to argue a case effectively in court, interview clients and negotiate agreements, benefitting from simulated trials and tribunals in our Moot Court Room.

The University of Gloucestershire School of Business and Technology is situated in a brand-new, state-of-the-art centre at our Oxstalls campus in Gloucester. The £16 million development is home to our Business, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Law and Accounting and Finance courses. Find out more about this and other new developments withour virtual fly-through video and see where you could be taking the first steps towards your career in law.

Students also have the opportunity to spend a year on placement through the four year sandwich course option. As well as this, our Make It business experiences are designed to ensure that you stand out from the crowd when you graduate.

Make It international: in your second year of study you will have the opportunity to visit some of the major international legal institutions based in Europe. Gain rare insights, first-hand, into some of the highest level of international legal proceedings. You could hear a live case being argued, witness a crimes against humanity trial, and there'll be a rare opportunity to have lectures and talks from lawyers and senior officials. Having global exposure will help you stand out in the job market, no matter whether you plan to have an international career or not. For this vital reason, the trip is included in the cost of your fees.

Make It real: learn from people who have been there and done it. Solicitors in private practice, barristers, judges and in-house lawyers from large organisations such as HSBC and NATO will deliver inspiring lectures and give you real insight. You can also visit the Supreme Court, Inns of Court, Parliament and city law firms. Real world application is embedded throughout your degree and you can take part in simulated trials and tribunals as well as mooting competitions. The School of Law also runs a Law clinic where students have the opportunity to shadow a solicitor offering legal advice. All focused on perfectly preparing you for when you graduate.

Make It happen: grow into a career-ready graduate. Final year students get to work in our Law Clinic, giving advice to real clients on contract law, consumer law or employment law. There are also opportunities to volunteer at the Law Centre or the Citizens Advice Bureau and practise your skills with genuine clients. This will give you the confidence to put your learning into practice and gain essential contacts. Students have gone on to work for leading law firms across Bristol, Birmingham and London. You will also have the chance to do an internship within legal and business environments. All of this is designed to give you the skills and the CV to pursue your chosen career.
