Description

Develop the skills to be a successful press photographer and get your stories noticed on this Creative Skillset accredited degree. Work on live briefs and shadow photojournalists on location as they work on live briefs from media outlets such as The Sunday Times. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a work placement, with recent destinations including the Daily Mail, South West News Service, The Sunday Times and Magnum Photos.

Exploring the world behind your lens, you’ll have the opportunity to work on documentary projects abroad with recent projects being undertaken in Thailand, the Caribbean, Palestine, the Philippines and Nepal. You'll also be inspired by professional photographers in lectures with recent guests including Facundo Arrizabalaga, Annie Bungeroth, Melanie Friend and Crispin Hughes.

In your first year you’ll work on-location at two local events. You’ll also develop skills to produce diverse photographic responses using both the street and studio.

In your second year you’ll progress your unique photographic perspective, refining your projects to your professional ambitions.

In your final year you’ll have the opportunity to travel internationally with students producing critically acclaimed projects in destinations across the world. Many of these have gained industry exposure in the UK including at AOP Open national exhibition and the Royal Photographic Society’s annual international print exhibition.

You’ll develop a professional folio of photography from which to launch your career as a photojournalist and documentary photographer. You’ll study a range of exciting modules covering photography on-location and moving and still image. You’ll be creatively challenged to produce intelligent and engaging visual photo stories for your audience, producing in-depth coverage of news topics and important societal issues. You will edit and publish your best work in an annual newssheet.
