Description

The BSc in Health and Well-being is designed to provide you with a unique inter-disciplinary learning experience related to wider aspects of health and wellbeing including public health, leadership and management and quality improvement.  This degree enables students to develop a critical understanding of all the key elements that influence the provision of services that lead to health and well-being. Students will examine local, national and international policy relating to health and well-being and develop skills to critically appraise the evidence used to support policy development.  It will enable you to explore how legislation, policy, public health measures, leadership and quality improvement come together to enable transformations in services for individuals and communities. The BSc has good fit with the principles of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 and the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

In your Final Year, you can tailor your programme of study to suit your emerging interests by selecting the modules that best suit your future employment plans and focus on public health, health promotion or quality and leadership.  An applied element to the course in the form of a work placement in the voluntary sector in Year 2 and 3 will enable students to link the academic content of the course to the realities of implementing health and well-being in the real life setting and help students’ foster organisational relationships that will support future employability.

The Kings’ Fund and Skills for Health have documented the need to change and provide different career opportunities in the delivery of health services.  Students will develop the skills necessary for employment in areas of healthcare policymaking, healthcare delivery, health promotion, and public health provisions in the public and third sector workforces.  This is the ideal degree for those who are working or want to work within health and social care settings and aspire to a leadership or public health position.  Third sector charitable or not for profit organisations contribute significantly to transforming health and well-being by shaping and delivering health policies and include organisations such as Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, and Médecins Sans Frontières. Follow this link to view the broad range of employment opportunities available in the third sector.
