Description
The course syllabus includes English language skills, study skills and the academic information and training you need to successfully complete your chosen degree programme.
It consists of a programme of full-time study, usually between 09:00 and 15:15. This will include up to 21 contact hours per week, plus assignments.
Improving your academic English
This part of the course will focus on the ways we use the English language in an academic content. We will concentrate on the grammatical structures and vocabulary commonly used in presenting academic work, while improving confidence in communicating with, and responding to, the academic community.
Study skills
Academic study skills are invaluable and we believe that all university students would benefit from this course. In these classes, you will learn and practise the core skills needed to complete your chosen degree programme.
They include skills such as note-taking, summarising, text structure, referencing, data analysis, understanding lectures, making presentations and participating in seminars and tutorials.
Academic orientation
Our academic orientation lessons introduce you to our campus and academic facilities. They provide a basic introduction to using our computer operating systems and resource centres.
You'll also learn about the conventions and expectations of the academic community and how these should be met.
